[world_famous_recipes] PEPPERMINT STICKS

White Chocolate-Peppermint Swizzle Sticks
Serves/Yields: 12 swizzle sticks

You can sweeten hot chocolate on a cool winter's night with a
swirl of these festive chocolate-dipped candy sticks.
12 peppermint candy canes
2 cups hot water
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
clean, empty glass jar (at least 4 ounces)
2 1/2 ounces red or green sugar crystals or colored sprinkles
Snip a wrapper end off each candy cane and push it back to expose 1 1/2
inches of the candy.
Pour hot water to a depth of 3/4 inch in a saucepan. Pour the chocolate
chips and oil into the jar and set it in the saucepan. Place the pan over
low heat until the chips begin to melt, about 8 minutes. Don't let the water
boil, and be careful not to get any water drops in the chocolate, or it will
clump. With a butter knife, stir the mixture until smooth. Remove the
saucepan and jar from the heat. Keep the jar in the warm water to prevent
the chocolate from cooling.
Dip the exposed end of a candy stick into the warm chocolate, coating it
well. Don't worry if it's not smooth; the sugar crystals will cover it. Lift
the stick straight up and out of the jar and immediately sprinkle it with
the sugar crystals, or sprinkles. Place the stick, chocolate end up, in a
small mug to cool. To set quickly, chill in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
Repeat with the remaining candy sticks.
To serve, peel off the wrappers and arrange decoratively in a glass or the
the side of a warm cup of hot chocolate or coffee.
To give as a gift, set them inside a Mason jar nicely and label. Decorative
touches and details help to make the gift beautiful. And, don't forget the
lid's decoration, too!
