[world_famous_recipes] Apple Cobbler a la Mode

Apple Cobbler a la Mode
When apple picking is in season, it only seems appropriate to make this classic autumn dessert. Serve it warm, topped with Stonyfield Farm ice cream or frozen yogurt.

Ingredients
Filling:
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 pounds apples (5 cups) apples, peeled, cored and sliced
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cut up
1/3 cup lowfat milk

1 pint Stonyfield Farm vanilla frozen yogurt or ice cream

Directions
Heat oven to 450°F. Grease a 9-inch pie plate, or a single layer cake pan, in which to place the cobbler filling. Using a large bowl add sugar, spices and lemon juice. Stir to mix. Add apples, stirring to coat. Arrange in baking dish.

For the topping, mix dry ingredients into medium sized bowl. Add butter and cut in with pastry blender or knives until mixture is the consistency of coarse cornmeal. Add milk and stir until a soft dough forms. Knead on lightly floured surface 10-12 times. Roll to fit baking dish, and place over apples. Bake 25-30 minutes until golden. Serve warm with ice cream or frozen yogurt.
