Re: [world_famous_recipes] Oldies
Yes, we remember everything mentioned below -- and then some. Speeaking of cars, one hardly ever hears the term "automobiles". And, how about "rumble seats"... You'd have to explain what they were to the younger generations. The "horseless carriages" were a little earlier, although there were still a few of those around when we were younger.
Now days one hears about cars and other engines abe to be powered by "duel-fuels" or energy sources. But, when is the last time anyone saw a "duel-fuel" stove? Of course we didn't call it that, but they were heated b.
Perculaters weren't just any coffee maker, but a certain type; usually with a glass dome in the center of the lid,.where you could see the coffee "perking". They also had a basket for the grounds suspended on a stand above the boiling water. The water would "perk" up through the center of the stand (or stem) -- and go down through the grounds to make the coffee.
Here's another term used for cooking that we seldom hear anymore -- "spider". It was a covered pan with legs to hold it above the coals if in a fire pit, pr above the flame of a gas stove.... (Ours was made of cast iron, and was used most often when we took our kids campng.)
