When I had long hair and used Aqua Net, I had such a build up on my hair it
was disastrous! I learned that if you dissolved aspirins in water - LOTS of
aspirins, and wet combed it through your freshly washed but gummy locks, all
that goo came off.
Speaking of hair - did anyone rinse/soak their hair with peroxide to lighten
it? It was double effective if you laid out in the sun until it dried. It
REALLY works, plus, since it dries out your hair, it was much more manageable to
tease! Youth!
In my college days Max Factor had a lip gloss in a tube that could be seen
two cities away. Did it SHINE! It was sticky and heavy, but I loved it! It
was just so - you know - GLAM! If a tube ever lasted long enough to dry out a
little, you'd be having a conversation and people thought you were a
ventriloquist..........you couldn't part your lips!
Also at this time, you weren't college cool if you didn't smoke! WHAT WAS I
THINKING as I ventured into this act my parents would kill me for!? I lit up
and smoked - got sick - smoked some more - got dizzy and sick - but I had to
be/look sophisticated. Eventually I felt well enough to sit in the campus
burger shack and puff with the best of them! I don't, by the way, still
smoke.......
Then came the falls (fake hair pieces) and false eyelashes.
Ooooooooooo-laaa-laaa!! Now I was TOTALLY glam - not just that old college look. Well, I did
still wear the lip gloss as I modeled. Here I am.......just having moved to
Dallas Texas, all styled and wild. Then, "WOW MAN" the mini skirts and hot
pants arrived on the fashion scene. OMG - how wonderfully sinful!! (Keep in
mind I was an only child, raised by STRICT Baptist parents. This worldly world
was a wonder to me!!!!)
Looking back at the young woman who wore a long fall, fluttered her big brown
LONG LASHED eyes, had plastic lips, and wore minis and hotpants - with GO GO
BOOTS of course - well, she was a good kid as she savored her first
independence. AND she could brazenly go out and DANCE!
Hiphuggers anyone?
